It was around the time the air first began to cool in Tokyo —
not yet winter, but close enough to feel it coming.
I was walking through Ebisu when I came across a young woman selling vintage garments,
each one folded carefully on a small cloth.

Among them was this antique michiyuki jacket.
She spoke softly, explaining how it was once worn over a kimono,
how the tie inside keeps its shape,
and how its length — just brushing the hips — makes it easy to wear at home or outside.

It’s strange how something made decades ago can still fit into the rhythm of today.
Maybe it’s the way the fabric holds time quietly within it — not as nostalgia, but as a kind of presence.

Later that afternoon, I made myself a cup of Korean ssanghwa tea.
On the table sat a calendar by a Japanese artist I admire,
a handful of gingko nuts a friend had given me,
and my cute brown betty teapot from England.
What a small, beautiful day.
